In the course of delivering care to our patients, through their physicians, Shiel Medical Laboratory has embraced a Quality Management System whose purpose (mission) is to insure the accepted and mandated standards of laboratory medicine. It aims to measure outcomes against expectations, to monitor effectiveness and responsiveness against service and accountability, and to promulgate honor and integrity through engagement of its staff for a united goal of excellence in the service of our clients and their patients.

We are committed to helping our clients meet the challenges of today’s ever-changing healthcare environment and to the needs of your practice.  Our staff is diligent in improving the quality of healthcare in the communities we serve by providing the highest quality of laboratory testing and services to the medical community, a well as staying on the forefront of technological innovation in clinical laboratory medicine.

Essential to our focus is our commitment to quality and building and nurturing long-term relationships with individuals and organizations we serve.  We will continuously improve our processes, educate our physicians on the newest testing breakthroughs to better diagnose and treat their patients, and uphold a standard of care based upon trust, responsibility, reliability and communication.

Shiel Medical Laboratory is committed to providing the highest quality medical laboratory testing to its clients.  We believe that quality is the mandate for all of our employees. To that end, quality systems teams in both Clinical Pathology and the Anatomic Pathology laboratories work closely with their respective laboratory’s management and executive management to implement and to maintain quality systems by engaging employees on all levels.

The Quality Assurance Program for the clinical laboratory focuses on guidelines suggested by CLSI, CLIA, NYSDOH, CAP and ISO15189.  Shiel participates in several proficiency testing programs among which are CAP and NYSDOH: it also uses a variety of internal monitors for quality programs in each department of the laboratory as well as supporting departments.  All of these aim to insure the quality of our service to our clients and their patients and to provide continuous improvement initiatives toward the commitment.
